In memoriam Johan van Es

In Memoriam

In the morning of April 30th Johan van Es died.
He has given an very valuable contribution to the project of the SUSTAINABLE FOOTPRINT.
He was ill and knew he would not live much longer, but he wanted to use his last years for doing as much as he could for a better world. He offered us to help improving the English on this site and to translate texts.

The material about deforestation and the trees-for-life project on this site is his contribution too.

He had spent much of his life fighting apartheid, now he was fighting the destruction of the natural environment and wanted to help educating the young generation on sustainability. Regular mails from Johan brought often interesting websites, news from Australia and comment on actual developments.

He gave a practical contribution too: every summer he raised 1800 small real Australian trees from seeds, to be planted in the South Australian nature, where exotic trees and shrubs have replaced the original forest.

We will miss him and his work, but his contributions to this project will stay as a modest monument for him.
